Description

The book explains how capital allowances work, when they are worth considering, and how they are claimed in practice. It also contains warnings of the steps that may need to be taken before a property sale, and it gives some pointers as to what to look out for (and what to avoid) when seeking specialist professional advice.

In summary, the book is designed to alert owners of hotels, pubs or restaurants to opportunities and pitfalls and to allow them to check whether significant claims may have been missed. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to claiming capital allowances and is not highly technical, though it does contain around 30 statutory and other references by way of footnotes and an appendix.

The text of this book is very similar to that in the related books written for owners of care homes and for dentists. The examples have, however, been tailored for each book so that they reflect the issues arising for the different types of business, and the differing percentages of qualifying expenditure likely to apply in each case. Each book also has an appendix containing its own list of assets that will typically qualify for plant and machinery allowances in the context of the particular type of business.
